Learning to stop

03-06-14

We are busy. Ok, we are extra busy!

For some of us, we simply live life fast forward: errands, projects, meetings, hobbies… all seems to be squeezed in. It turns out not that difficult, that we do not enjoy what we are doing, because we are thinking about what is next and worrying for what we leave behind undone…

In this culture we are embed in it is not wonder we fall unknowingly of where we are and where we want to go, or even wondering who is this that is going crazy like this from one place to the next.

In our process of Clarifying our Ways it becomes fundamental learn to stop.

Stop.

Easy saying not so much doing. We might feel uncomfortable at just slowing down, at not doing nothing, at just being quite for a while. And those times that we feel dead exhausted do not count for stop times, let’s not fool ourselves :)!

I propose you to build up on them. Just let your “being” muscles get used to it bit by bit, and build from that.

For the following days do the following practice: to stop for 30 seconds 3 times a day while you are running through your day, i.e When you are running on an errand, or right before you make that phone call, or just before you get out of the car.

For those 30 seconds just feel your body at STOP, in pause, try not to move and just rest. Equally, stop your line of thought, let go your thinking, ideas or worries for this brief moment.

While you are on STOP just notice how inertia was pushing you and what is now pushing you to move on.

For us to wonder is: with no time, no space, no sense of inner calmness how are we to find clarity into what is next for us or how to move forward towards that which matters the most to us.

Let’s see if you can build this practice up to 5 minutes!

Good practice to all.
